Abdul Rao, MD, MA, DPhil

In addition to hundreds of scientific presentations made by the Dr. Rao during his tenure at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, University of Pittsburgh (1993 – 2000), he has also delivered and/or authored numerous presentations/documents which outline new and innovative strategic plans and policies related to preserving and enhancing research and graduate education in public and private institutions of higher education in the U.S. While most of the material presented is specific to a particular institution, it is important to note that it has universal application. In March 2009, the Board of Directors of the Institute of Women's Health of North America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization registered in the State of Florida, selected Abdul Sohail Rao, MD, MA, DPhil to serve as its Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director. He also serves as the Chief Research Officer of the Institute. Dr. Rao came to the Institute from the University of South Florida where he was the Professor of Surgery & Molecular Medicine, Senior Associate Vice President, University of South Florida Health (USF Health), and Vice Dean for Research & Graduate Education, College of Medicine, USF Health. Additionally, he served as the Founding Director, School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine, USF Health. He also served as the Medical Director of Clinical Research, Tampa General Hospital, an affiliate teaching hospital of the University of South Florida.
